Fashion Focus: Oscars 2013

The Oscars is known as the creme de la creme of award shows and therefore it's red carpet fashion is talked about for years to come. Everyone remembers Gwyneth Paltrow's pink Ralph Lauren dress she worn for her big win in 1999, and Julia Roberts looked stunning in her monochrome Valentine in 2001 dress and who can forget Hilary Swank's 2005 completely backless Guy Laroche gown, all memorable for their gowns and their best actress wins. This year was no different with Jennifer Lawerence stealing the show in her Dior Couture light pink and ivory gown and matched her best actress win perfectly.

There was a definite theme of pale hues walking the red carpet with Anne Hathaway in pale pink Prada, Amy Adams in a dusty lavender Oscar de la Renta, Charlize Theron in white Dior Couture, which boasted the elegance of the red carpet. Jessica Chastin went with the vintage theme in a Custom Armani dress and bold red lip which for me was runner up to best dressed, not to mention Adele who flew the style flag for Britain in Jenny Packham.

There were as there always are fashion no nos, and in my opinion these came from Helena Bohem Carter in Vivienne Westwood which matched her quirky style but still wan't right for the Oscars red carpet along with the messy look hair. I also disliked Kelly Rowland's black and white gown.it just looked a bit tacky and the slit did her no favours, since Angelina Jolie's super long slit from last year could not be beaten!

Another let down was from Jennifer Aniston in Valention, which showed a way of how to not do red on the red carpet, although not terrible it wasn't stunning either, unlike Kerry Washington who put Jennifer's red dress to shame with a studding Miu Miu red gown with gorgeous detail.

Award season is now over, until next year when the gowns come out again in full force.
